SAFETY SIGNS AND SAFETY AWARENESS PROGRAMS

Carroll Printing regularly works with organizations in some of the most hazardous industries in the world. This includes clients in the construction, oil & gas, energy and automotive industries, where safety is an everyday concern.

We can deliver a range of print safety products to raise awareness and remind workers of essential safety measures in place on the site. For example, with a print safety campaign in place employers can:

  • Enforce a safety-first mindset on the worksite
  • Remind workers of any specific safety measures in place
  • Point out the location of essential safety resources (eye showers, first aid kits, etc.)
  • Indicate the location and nature of any hazards on the worksite

All these measures are essential for improving safety on the job, and they can all be better supported with effective print materials.

Our Safety Products

As a leading commercial printer, Carroll Printing can offer a comprehensive array of printing services. This means we can develop any type of safety message for any medium and any work setting. Specifically, we offer the following:

  • CEMEX safety signage – We are proud to offer a full library of CEMEX-certified safety signage for construction and other heavy-duty industries. CEMEX signage follows OSHA and ANSI requirements for safety signage design and is therefore compliant with all federal regulations. CEMEX signage can be used for every type of hazard and for purposes other than warning. CEMEX safety signage can also be used for traffic direction, wayfinding, entry notices and informational reasons.
If your business operates in or around hazardous settings, CEMEX safety signage is an essential tool to protect your workers.
  • Safety posters and banners – In addition to CEMEX-certified signage, we can also provide an expanded selection of safety signs and banners that make for excellent safety reminders and reinforcers. These are perfect for break rooms and around employee lockers.
  • Floor and wall decals – Floor and wall decals are durable safety reminders, typically made from abrasion-resistant and tear-resistant vinyl. They can be adhered to most surfaces and therefore can be installed in out-of-the-way spots and in close proximity to any hazards.
  • Hard hat decals – Hard hat decals are a popular option for construction and worksites, as everyone needs to wear head protection. We can develop hard hat decals that provide safety reminders or include your company’s branding to reinforce both.
  • Safety apparel – Carroll Printing is skilled at printing on a variety of apparel items, including hats, shirts, outerwear, protective wear and other worn items. Apparel can be used for promotional purposes, but it’s also common for organizations to print safety messaging on it.
  • Safety accessories – In addition to apparel, we can also print safety messaging on accessories like lanyards and TWIC cards. One example is heat safety TWIC cards, which are printed on PVC and come with an encapsulated liquid crystal thermometer to help employees keep track of the temperature and potential heat hazards.

Why Worksites Rely on Commercial Printing Services for Their Safety Resources

Worksite safety signage and apparel are vital resources in hazardous work settings, so it makes a difference where businesses source their safety signs, banners and decals from. For many organizations, the right partner is a commercial printer, who can offer the following:

  • High volume production – A fully equipped commercial printer can scale its production to any degree that a client requires. As a client’s print needs increase and become more complex, a commercial printer can adjust in real time and ensure their clients have the materials they need.
  • A full range of print capabilities – Commercial printers have access to additional print technologies beyond what you’d find in a typical print shop. This includes specialized print processes like dibond printing, which enables printers to create safety signage on aluminum and other metals. If you operate in rugged work environments, durability is a chief concern for anything installed on site. That includes safety signage, and a commercial printer can provide durable signs, banners and decals.
  • Responsive customer service – If you need to make adjustments to your safety signage or if you need a custom solution for your worksites, a commercial printer can respond to requests quickly and professionally. The goal is to deliver a solution that is designed to fit the organization’s precise safety needs.

If your organization expects to improve or refresh its safety measures soon, or if you’re expecting to expand to new locations, a commercial printer partner will ensure you’re always well positioned from a safety standpoint.

Safety Awareness Programs for Houston and Gulf Coast Worksites

Carroll Printing & Promotions has printed in Houston since 1921, and our safety work reaches plants, yards, construction sites and industrial operations across the Gulf Coast and around the country. A safety awareness program is more than a stack of signs. It is a consistent set of signs, decals, posters, banners, forms and apparel that tells every worker the same thing in the same way, from the gate to the break room.

We build those programs for single sites and for companies with many locations. One example is the full safety signage and materials library on our CEMEX safety page. The same approach works for any company that wants its safety message to look and read the same everywhere. See also our occupational safety page.

Safety Sign Categories

Every safety sign we print starts with the hazard it has to warn about and the work area where it will hang. Clear warnings prevent injuries, and every category below follows the same OSHA and ANSI standards our customers use across their workplaces. Browse our safety sign categories below, or send us the wording and we will build a custom safety sign to match the rest of your program. Many signs are available in English and Spanish.

Safety Labels, Tags and Warning Decals

A safety sign on the wall is only part of the job. Workplace hazards also live on tanks, pipes, machines and doors, and health and safety warnings need to be on the hazard itself, in the area where injuries happen. We print:

  • Chemical identification labels: tank and line labels for chemicals and materials such as caustic soda, aluminum sulfate, diesel fuel and compressed air.
  • NFPA hazard labels: blank NFPA decals and NFPA explanation signs that show the health, fire, instability and specific hazard ratings.
  • Machine and equipment warning decals: pinch point, high voltage, ladder safety and forklift traffic floor decals placed right at the point of danger.
  • Permit and maintenance tags: hot work permit tags, maintenance transfer tags and lockout tagout tryout materials for controlled work areas.
  • Hard hat decals: safety trained, new hire and safety culture stickers that travel with each worker.

Labels, tags and safety signs work best together. When the safety sign at the entrance, the decal on the machine and the tag on the valve all use the same colors, symbols and wording, workers recognize the warning faster, safety training sticks and your workplaces stay consistent with the standards your safety team follows.

OSHA and ANSI Safety Sign Headers

Most workplace safety signs follow the ANSI Z535 system that OSHA references, so a worker can read the level of risk from the color and the header word before reading the message. Most signs also pair the header with a symbol or pictogram, such as a required PPE icon or a prohibition circle, so the warning reads at a glance even across a language barrier. Clear, consistent workplace signage supports your health and safety compliance and backs up what crews learn in safety training. These are the headers we print most:

  • Danger: red header. Used where ignoring the hazard is certain to kill or seriously hurt someone.
  • Warning: orange header. A hazard that could cause death or serious injury.
  • Caution: yellow header. A hazard that could cause minor or moderate injury.
  • Notice: blue header. Information about practices or property that is not a direct injury hazard.
  • Safety instructions: green header. General safety practices, first aid and emergency equipment locations.
  • Fire safety and exit signs: red fire equipment signs that mark extinguisher and alarm locations, and emergency exit signs that keep evacuation routes clear.

How a Safety Awareness Program Comes Together

  1. List the hazards and the places: walk the site and note every hazard, entrance, PPE zone, eyewash station and emergency resource that needs a sign or a reminder.
  2. Pick the right format for each spot: a sign where it has to be seen from a distance, a decal on the equipment itself, a poster where people stop, a hard hat decal for the message that travels with the worker.
  3. Set one look: the same colors, wording and logo across every piece, in English and Spanish where your crews need both.
  4. Proof, print and reorder: approve the proofs once, then reorder by item as sites open, signs wear or rules change.

Our team can design the program from your safety manual or work from your existing artwork. Our artwork guidelines cover file formats.

Union Printed Safety Materials

Union contractors and signatory employers often want their safety materials produced by union labor, the same as their printed communications. Because Carroll Printing & Promotions is a union shop, qualifying safety printing can carry the Allied Printing Trades Council label. Our union printing page explains how it works.
